August 1, 2008 For Immediate Release to All Media:
The Antrim County High Tea for Breast Cancer Prevention (ACHT) announced today that it has received a grant of $27,000 from the Charlotte R. Schmidlapp Fund, Fifth Third Bank, Trustee. The funds will be used in support of the organization’s education, awareness and testing programs.
“We commend Fifth Third Bank and the Charlotte R. Schmidlapp Fund for their support in helping us improve the community in which we live,” said Ed Huller, ACHT Secretary and Board member. “This funding will allow us to commit to an expanded educational and outreach program”.
“This is an excellent example of community members helping each other simply because it’s the right thing to do,” said Mark Eckhoff, President Fifth Third Bank Northern Region. “It also demonstrates how public and private organizations can work together to more effectively serve those in need”.
ACHT is a 501(c)(3) non profit organization established with a mission to:
“… provide awareness and education and facilitate eligibility screening and initial medical testing for breast cancer. The primary focus will be to assist all individuals living within Antrim County, Michigan who are not otherwise covered by public or private medical programs and whose personal financial capability would discourage preventative testing.”
ACHT began in 2004 driven by two local women who wanted to make a difference in their community. Today we are supported by over 600 individuals and more than 250 area businesses. This is an all volunteer effort in which all the funds collected are used to directly support Antrim County residents.
We have partnered with the Health Department of Northwest Michigan and Munson Medical Center for screening, testing and follow-up. We have worked closely with the Health Department to increase the number of women accessing their programs.
ACHT also provides direct funding for testing individuals who do not meet the state program’s guidelines or when state funding runs out as it did in 2007.
